Home Improvement Grows in Popularity in 2010

UK homeowners may see an increased need for storage facilities in the first half of 2010 due to an upturn in home improvement activity.
New research conducted by Sainsbury’s Bank shows that just under one in five personal loans taken out by homeowners in the first six months of the year was arranged to pay for home improvement work.
This continues the increased demand for renovation work seen in 2009 compared to the preceding two years, with only 14.1 per cent of loans in 2007 being used for home improvements.

IT’S GOOD that city officials are becoming more creative in finding the missing owners of derelict or unkempt buildings and property and making them do what’s right by their neighborhoods.
But if creativity doesn’t work, City Hall should ramp it up and get more aggressive.
Call it protecting the public’s purse while also preventing neighborhoods from going down the tubes.

People considering hiring professional interior designers to help them undertake home improvement projects could save costs by making a series of small changes, one expert has said.
Speaking to the Baltimore Sun, president of the Maryland chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers Laura Kimball said those with less money after the recession are attempting to reduce the amount of cash they spend on redecorating their properties.
