Energy EfficientMichael Holmes, spokesman for the National Home Improvement Show, has said that people are becoming more and more aware of the importance and benefits of the energy-efficient properties, but added that there is a gap between understanding and implementation.

Mr. Holmes said that people could start moving towards a higher take-up of eco-home solutions if they could be convinced that making a home more energy efficient wouldn’t be cost prohibitive and returns could be made rather quickly.

A recent report from ServiceMagic showed that 62 per cent of service professions reported that less than 10 per cent of the US homeowners improving their properties had requested alternatives to make their houses more energy-efficient.

He also said that the number of DIY accidents could increase as cash-mired people are set to try home improvement tasks for themselves.

Mr. Holmes suggested some ways to avoid injuries while taking on a DIY project.

He advised people to get their DIY legs by starting off with a smaller, less challenging project.

Speaking on the topic, he added, “Do your research and plan out what is required to complete the job and what tools are required. Make sure you understand what is expected of you.”

Recently a man in Bury was taken to hospital after he was badly burned while making improvements on his kitchen.
